Slices for long summer nights: Enjoy these midsummer-inspired recipes
Picture this – the sun is bright, birds are chirping, friends and family are gathered around the Ooni pizza oven while the mouth-watering scent of freshly baked pizza fills the air. It can only be one time of year; summer!
And as midsummer approaches, it's time to make the most of the beautiful weather and longer days by donning your best summer attire, dusting your favourite summer peel with a bit of flour, firing up the Ooni and soaking up all this season has to offer.
To kick things off, we’ve put together three amazing midsummer recipes to inspire your midsummer feasts. Some take their inspiration from more traditional Nordic flavours while others bring some new ideas and flavours to the oven.
So, while others are making flower crowns or sitting around a bonfire complaining that summer is too hot, give these recipes a try.
Nordic Pizza with Salmon, Dill & Crème Fraiche
The Swedish love to celebrate midsummer so why not join in the fun with a delicious slice of Nordic-inspired pizza? Our talented food writer Guillaume Marinette has created a true salmon-led masterpiece by blending the best of Nordic flavours into a pizza that pays homage to this incredible region. And while you might not be able to enjoy a slice under a midnight sun, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Flatbread with Chili and Fennel Sausage, Burrata and Herbs
This recipe is wild. Quite literally. It’s one from our collaboration with UK-based chef Gill Meller’s who champions outdoor cooking, and honestly – it packs an absolute flavour punch. Rustic and earthy, adventurous and aromatic, with rich flavours of sausage and fennel, best enjoyed sitting in the sun. So go on, grab your Ooni cast iron skillet and show the season who’s boss.
Strawberry Dark Chocolate Pizza
Why should dinner have all the pizza fun? This dessert pizza captures indulgent, summer flavours in a delicious, pizza form. Topped with edible flowers, it’s the perfect midsummer treat, and a great way to get kids or those young at heart involved.
At this point it’s important to remember – and we feel weird saying this – but midsummer is not just about pizza. The longest day is a chance for all of us to celebrate the season, as well as an excuse to start new traditions with friends and family together in the garden…Ah, who are we kidding – it’s definitely about the pizza! So, this midsummer, ditch the maypole – dance around your Ooni instead.
